Journeys through the mist

Ok, so a new toy

So I bought myself a Christmas present: an iPad. I told myself it was needed for my web work, but who am I fooling? It is for that since I need to be able to check web designs, but it is also a seriously cool new toy, and I’m really enjoying it.

I bought a kindle fire for the same reason. :)

    • I have a friend with a Kindle Fire and I played with it and it is quite nice, but being Mac person I decided on the iPad for compatibility and because it just seems more polished and finessed to me.

I’m very glad to see the Kindle Fire though as it is really the first Android-based tablet that is really worth considering.

  2. Hi Rich,
You didn’t fool me either. ;) The contrast between those who can buy toys and those can’t is becoming more clearly defined these days.

    • I’m sad to see that contrast. Things are so f*&ked up in the world right now and sadly there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. We have no Authentic Chiefs in positions of power and that is soooooo sad.

Teaser: Post coming soon on Authentic Chiefs.

      • I’m waiting for the post on Authentic Chiefs. Please don’t forget to prompt me after you publish it.

        • I’m working on it a little at a time in and around the web work which has picked up here lately. Everyone wants changes. I’ll let you know when I publish it.

Self made presents are always the best, aren’t they ???

  4. Hi Richard,
My first visit here, my first blog at WordPress. I decided to visit your site and see how it was set up only to find that you are about the only person ,beside myself, that has read “Jane Roberts”! My sister and I have started this blog to mainly speak about Art but we will add more content in the future that is energy based.
It might be fun to watch us stumble around as we find our way thru the world of blogging..read: total neophytes.
Yours is a very beautiful site.
    Rhinda

    • Rhinda, thanks for the compliment, and yes, it seems rare to run into people who have read Jane. She brought through some outstanding material and not all of it has even been published as I understand it.

I’ve got your site in my reading list and will be dropping around to see what you two are up to. Have fun and enjoy it.

  5. Nice blog you have :) . Keep up the good work and I wish you having a great time with your new gadget :-)

  6. HOW DO YOU RAISE A HAPPINESS ENGINEER?!!

    Couldn’t resist!
Great blog by the way, :-D

  7. Hope your iPad proves to be a gift that keeps on giving…

It’s bad enough I get slight withdrawal symptoms when I’m out and realize I don’t have my iPad with me. It would be way worse if I had it on a phone plan in which case it would be inseparable from me especially because there are all kinds of apps out there that allow you to watch Flash on the iPad…

    • I need to start using it more. I find it a pleasure to use for surfing the web, but during the day I need my computer to work on websites and such. By the time the evening rolls around I’m digitally exhausted so I don’t pick it up. I do have about 15 books on it I want to read, but I’m sort of old fashioned and like the feel of a book in my hands and the smell of the pages and ink. It is taking some getting used to.

  8. Hey Rich,

How do you like the Ipad now (few months later). I’m thinking of purchasing one but I’m afraid it will be like anything else that I buy – I’ll enjoy it for a bit but eventually it’ll end up in the closet forever. It is still useful?

Looking forward to hearing your reply

    • I’m loving it. I use it mostly for late night web surfing and reading ebooks right now, but I find it incredibly easy to use and the interface is sooo intuitive and well designed. It is quite literally a pleasure to use.

I’ve also just updated my MacBook Pro to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and what an incredible piece of work. The new touch gestures and things brought over from the “i” stuff is so well integrated. It does seem a little slow at times, but I suspect by the time one or two updates come out it will be flying along just like Lion.

  9. Just found your blog, and nearly drowned in all the options! Don’t worry… it’s a good thing!

I used to have a WordPress blog, hosted by “bloghost” before they went under. No warning either… there one day, gone the next.

I happened to find my way back to WordPress after my best friend “Pishaw”d me when I told him I had a Tumblr blog.

He said, “Rob, if you’re serious about blogging again, use WordPress.”

And so I did… and now I can start to remember some of the things I used to know… I had a wonderful bit of .css that did an amazing looking Drop Cap at the beginning of any paragraph I wanted it on. I miss it :(

And now… the reason for this comment. I have looked at my blog with my iPod Touch 4Gen., my Playbook, and my laptop. But when I looked at it on my roomies iPad 4Gen., I had column overlap, in both landscape and portrait orientations. [confused look].

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.
